About the Department

Department of Mathematics has been started during the year 1972 since then the department has an enviable academic record, as students secured distinction and honour. Every year around 50 Students emit as graduates from the department. The Department has produced many students who have become Scientists, Bank employees & Lectures, many have entered teaching Profession at the high school level and playing an important role in producing the future citizens of our country .This credit goes to the teaching Staff who put forth their efforts to make the subject easy and encouraging them to pursue higher Education. The department has implemented CBCS scheme as per Mysore university regulations The department has conducted workshops for university lectures and for students.

In order to promote and to encourage the students, various cash prizes have been instituted. Cash prizes   be given to the students who excel in their examinations every year on the occasion of the Founders’ day.

Programme offered

Mathematics is offered as one of the optional subjects for BSc students with following combinations:

  • Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM)
  • Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science (PMCs)
Objectives of the BSc programme
  • To sharpen the experimental skills and develop an appreciation for the inter relation between theory and practical.
  • To develop problem solving techniques in students.
  • Perform experiments and interpret the results of observation, including making an assessment of experimental uncertainties.
  • Provide an intellectually stimulating environment to develop skills and enthusiasms of students to the best of their potential.
 
Outcomes of the programme:

Following are the various Programme outcomes:

  •  Develop and understand the value of Mathematical proof and demonstrate proficiency in writing and understanding proofs.
  • Students are expected to have an understanding of the analytical methods required to interpret and analyze results and draw conclusions as supported by their data.
  • Students are also expected to develop written and oral communication skills in science and mathematics related topics.
  • Develop laboratory skills and professional communication skills.
  • Develop personal skills such as the ability to work both independently and in a group.
  • Acquire academic abilities, personal qualities and transferable skills, which will give them an opportunity to develop as responsible citizens.
