About the Department:

The department of commerce started in the year 1970 w ith very few  students, grow itself to become the biggest department of the college with 368 students in the academic year 2019 -2020. It was headed by prominent academicians visionaries, academic experts, department for several years imparting quality education to the students. Many students of our department have become professionals, academicians, bureaucrats, managers and experts assumed significant positions in several government departments, organisations and enterprises.

The department is instrumental in introducing  BBA programme  in 2008. As the college is affiliated to the University of Mysore curriculum of the programme is designed by BOS in Commerce and BOS in Administartion.

The Department has adequate well qualified, competent faculty who are dedicated to the academic and overall development of the student community. The Department strives to take the students beyond academics and offers innumerable exposures and opportunities to facilitate them to grow in self- confidence and self- esteem, so that they will be able to face all challenges of life successfully. Further the department organize industrial visits, study tours, workshops to  provide  practical knowledge to  students. In  addition to this, seminars and conferences are also conducted on current issues related to commerce and management to enrich and to  upgrade  the  knowledge  of students and academicians. The department is practicing innovative teaching methods to enable the students to understand curriculum and  develop skills in order to fit themselves for real life situations.

To build and ignite full growth of students and faculty members professional and critical know-how and spirit in value based education, community growth with an attitude towards community, placement to promote vertical mobility, discovery of entrepreneurial directions and knowledge enhancement awareness with a scientific disposition.

To create an environment for high- quality, accessible, creative, value- based research-oriented business education  with  revolutionary  learning  method  for the creation of overall personality and leadership qualities. Creating entrepreneurial ability in s tudents. Developing human capital to serve  as corporate thinkers.

Best Practices:

Bridge Course: Bridge Course is conducted in first year to bridge the gap between the commerce and non-commerce students.

Department Library: Department library is established where faculty and all the students of department can take the books for reference.

Experimental Learning: Industrial Visit and field visit are organised with an aim to go beyond academics, provide students a practical perspective on the world of work and an opportunity to learn practically through interaction, working methods and employment practices.

Paper Presentation by Students: Writing, presenting papers, researching at State/ National/ International Seminars/ Conferences provides students with invaluable experience in expressing ideas and an opportunity to exercise and improve both written and verbal communication skill.

B.Com Program Objectives:

The Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com) equips graduates with the knowledge and technical skills necessary to understand and participate in the modern business world. The course also prepares students for subsequent graduate studies and allows them to achieve the highest level of success in their professional careers.

To cater to the manpower needs of companies in Accounting, Taxation, Auditing, Financial analysis and Management.

The Course allows students to meet accreditation requirements specified by accounting and actuarial professional bodies. Graduate options upon completion of the degree include proceeding directly to employment or further professional or research related graduate studies.

To prepare students to take up higher education to become business scientists, researchers, consultants and teachers with core competencies.

Graduates of this degree will be productive workplace communicators.

To develop human resources to act as think tank for Business Development related issues.

To generate entrepreneurs.

To develop business philosophers with a focus on social responsibility and ecological sustainability. • B.Com Graduates will have the capacity to: work collaboratively and productively in groups. Use basic mathematical and statistical tools of analysis apply critical and analytical skills and methods to the identification, evaluation and resolution of complex problems.

To critically evaluate new ideas, research findings, methodologies and theoretical frameworks in a specialized field of study.

To develop IT enabled global middle level managers for solving real life business problems and addressing business development issues with a passion for quality competency and holistic approach.

To develop ethical managers with interdisciplinary approach, recognise and understand the ethical responsibilities of individuals and organisations in society.

To prepare students to exploit opportunities being newly created in the accounting & finance field.

To prepare students for professions in the field of Accountancy – Chartered Accountancy, Cost and Management Accountancy, Company Secretary, Professions in Income Tax and Goods and Service Tax, Professions in life and non-life insurance and professions in Banks by passing the respective examinations of the respective professional bodies.

To develop the students for competitive examinations of UPSC, KPSC, BSRB, Staff Selection Commission etc.

To create an additional avenue of self-employment and also to benefit Industry by providing them with suitably trained persons in the field of Accounting & Finance.

 

BBA Programme Objectives:

To provide the basic and essential knowledge regarding various activities undertaken and necessary to run socially-responsible business organization

To teach certain basic skills and aptitudes to be helpful in taking up any particular activity in a business.

To inculcate global view of the industrial and organization establishment and their functions which support the business system.

To make them responsible to be specialized in the area of management like human resource, finance operations and marketing and system.

To inform the Micro level concept of business and management like insurance retail, marketing, supply chain management etc…

To develop the culture of business and entrepreneurial aptitude among the people at large.

Admission to UG Programme is offered on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination (10+2) followed by document verification at the t ime of final admission.
