About the Department
  • The Computer Science Department was started in the year 2008.
  • The Department has a well-equipped ICT enabled laboratory with 32 computer systems with 10 Mbps broadband internet facility. The lab has complete LAN connectivity.
  • The faculty and students are encouraged and allowed to use Internet facilities in the department.
  • The department has implemented CBCS scheme as per Mysore University regulations.
  • In order to promote and to encourage the students to excel in their studies, various cash prizes have been instituted. Cash prizes will be given to the students who excel in their examinations every year on the occasion of the Founders’- Day.

About the Department

History is fascinating subject, because it happens to be the meeting ground of different disciplines. History is information, History is education and enlightenment. The study of this subject comprehends all human activities. The past experience helps us to gain a crucial attitude towards our own civilization. An understanding of the present is solely dependent on knowledge of the past.

History teaches us innumerable lessons of all kinds, personal as well as social and indeed a store house of lessons. According to Bacon, “History make men wise”. History is universal teacher of mankind teaching us what should do and what we should avoid, pointing to morals and distinguish between good and bad. The most important function of history is to illuminate human nature.

The department was established in the year 1968 along with the college. There are two combinations H.E.P and H.E.G. The department was established with the service of eminent teaching faculty, prominent faculty members of the department were Smt.Nalini Damodhar, Sri.P.N.Vijayashankar, Sri.Thimmaiah, Sri.R.R.Jannu, Smt.Sridevi, Smt.Girija, Sri.Samson Dixit, Sri.B.Parameshwara, Prof.B.Mahalinga swamy, Dr.N.Mahadevaswamy, Sri.D.M.Mahadevaswamy, Dr.N.J.Shashikala, Prof.R.V.Gopal, Smt.Sowbhagya, Dr. P.Mahadevamma, Sri. Swamy and others have rendered there valuable services for the growth of the department.

Monthly meeting will be conducted in the last week of every month, to review portion covered during that month. Head of the department will examine the diaries and attendance. In the meeting we will evolve collectively decide future strategy for completion of the syllabus. For all the students we will distribute the topics to write the assignment pertaining to the syllabus.

Library :

      We have a good library in our college. In library separate wing is there for history books. At present in library 2542 history books are there. The library is having clasic and rare books like Romila Thopar’s “ History of India, Will Duran’s Story of civilization 

Department library :

In the  department library 54 books of worth Rs.9,750/   are there.

Tours and Field visit programme :
  • As apart of the curriculum the department has arranged study tours and field work trips for the benefit of the students. All the students were participated and submitted their tour report to the department.
  • On 14-02-2020 students were visited Shrikanteshwara temple, Chamundeshwari temple and Raghavendra mutt in Nanjangud.

 

Special lecture programme :

A special lecture is delivered by Prof. L.N.Swamy H.O.D department of history P.R.M.college T.Narasipura on “ Life and Achievements of Sri Krishnadevaraja wodeyar III on 09-01-2020.

 

Plans of the department :
  1. The department has decided  to create historical awareness and sense among the  students about their own local history. In this connection some interested students are selected to study the history of some villages of Nanjangud taluk. It is the best way to involve the students to know there own cultural heritage.
  2. To establish department alumina association.
  3. A new proposal to start epigraphy course in the history department.
  4. To conduct special lecture programme by the department aluminies on history.
  5. To encourage the students to give PPT presentations.

  • To inculcate human values among the students for the development of healthy   society.
  • To create awareness about local culture.

 

MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT : 
  • To teach history as an inter connected subject matter, tracing links from the most ancient period to the present world.
  • To teach history as a means to understand basic human nature.
  • To teach history to develop a sense of probing documents, edicts and historical monuments.
  • To teach history to develop the ability to examine and verify the evidences before arriving at an inferences about human activities.
  • To teach history by subjecting the students to empirical approach by conducting tours, visits to historical places.
