National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Govt. of India, popularly
known as NSS was launched on Gandhi’s Birth Centenary Celebrated in the year 1969, about 37
Universities involving 40,000 Volunteers with a primary intension to focus on the development of
personality of students through infusing in them the feeling of selfless community service. Today, the
NSS has more than 3.2 million student volunteers and its roll has spread over 298 Universities and 42
(+2) Senior Secondary Councils and Directorate of Vocational Education across the country. Since its
inception, more than 3.75 crore students from Universities, Colleges and Institutions of Higher
Education have been benefited from the programmes have been being organized/offered by NSS
Units as societal activities. Hence, it has already been acknowledged that NSS is not mere a scheme
to serve society but also it is a best platform to be moulded the better personality of the students as
volunteers of the Nation. In this regard, our College has been emerged as the best institution in
rendering the pro-active societal or community oriented service to uphold the National Unity and
Integrity in the Global context.

The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are:
❖ To understand the community in which they work.
❖ To understand themselves in relation to their community.
❖ To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
❖ To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
❖ To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community related problems
❖ To develop competence required for group-living and sharing responsibilities
❖ To gain skills in mobilizing community participation
❖ To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
❖ To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural calamities
❖ To practice National Integration and Social Harmony
❖ To preserve ancient monuments.
❖ To develop the overall personality of the students.
The Motto of NSS is “NOT ME BUT YOU” reflects the essence of life on the Democratic lines and
upholds the need of self-less service. NSS helps the students as Volunteers to develop a sense of
appreciation on other person’s point of view and also to show due consideration to other living beings.
The philosophy of the NSS is a well-defined doctrine in this motto, which underlines on the belief that
the welfare of an individual is ultimately depends on the welfare of the society in general, and
therefore, the NSS Volunteers shall strive for the well-being in the society.
